British Tennis Star Emma Raducanu Turns Nostalgic in First Public Interview Days After Brutal Australian Open Loss – ‘Help Out My Mum..’

Emma Raducanu has a special place for good food. The British tennis player is quite fond of spending holidays and occasions with family and likes to enjoy amazing delicacies made by her mother. And on the occasion of the Lunar New Year, the former US Open champion opened up about her failed attempts at making dumplings. 

The 20-year-old tennis player’s multicultural background and upbringing also reflect on her food palette and recently she spilled the beans about her not-so-good cooking attempts that she has tried at times with her mother.

The 2021 US Open champion faced an upsetting second-round exit after she lost against Coco Gauff. After the early exit from the Australian Open, the 20-year-old appeared in an interview hosted by HSBC Sports on the occasion of the Lunar New Year.

In that interview, the British tennis player talked about her favorite festival traditions and recalled the times when she helped her mother cook some festive delicacies. And, she also revealed the best part about celebrating the new year is that the whole family gets together and shares amazing food made by her mother.

Further, she also talked about how she has tried making dumplings with her mother. Raducanu said, “I’ve tried to help out my mum a few times with dumplings and making the dough, but you can tell. Let’s say which ones are mine and which ones are hers when you see them at the end of it. Mine are usually all broken and hers are nicely neat, wrapped up at the top.” The 2021 US Open champion has a special connection with dumplings that her mother and grandmother frequently cook for her. 

Raducanu’s dumpling connection 

The British tennis player loves eating dumpling and has a lot of memories attached to this amazing dish. Her favorite dumplings are the ones that are stuffed with eggs, prawns, and chives. In a conversation with National Geographic, she recalled the time when she used to visit China and the dumplings made by her grandmother. She said, “When I’d go back to China, we’d all crowd round a tiny kitchen table…I miss those days very much.”

Additionally, the 20-year-old tennis player shares a Romanian heritage too. And whenever her other grandmother would visit them from time to time in England, she used to make amazing home-cooked traditional Romanian dishes for the family. Notably, the world number 77 tennis player has quite a sweet tooth.
