The 2024 Australian Open wasn’t a good one for the American fans. Despite having several players who looked promising to dig deep in the tournament, their run came to a disappointing end. Despite this setback, Gauff has received the backing of tennis legend, Mats Wilander.

Before the Australian Open, Gauff worked with Andy Roddick during the off-season. Some of her weaknesses were addressed during that session. Let’s find out what Wilander had to say about Gauff.

Further, he went on to add, “She serves harder, don’t necessarily think she serves better. The forehand will always be a work in progress. With Brad Gilbert there, and now that she mentioned Andy Roddick, I think there is a very healthy situation around Coco.”

It was a spontaneous meeting between Gauff and Roddick late last year. While it wasn’t planned, Gauff received valuable insights from her compatriot. Meanwhile, Roddick was surprised that the news of their practice session broke out because they had kept it under wraps.
