The magic of Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo’s Wicked is spreading all over the globe. Amidst the musical’s magical performance at the box-office, it’s attracting new fans every day in theaters. So how could WTA Finals champion and world no.3 Coco Gauff stay behind in showing her craze? Well, it seems like the 2023 US Open winner is in the awe of the movie after watching it!
Coco Gauff is currently enjoying her tennis break after a season that saw her winning two titles. Despite failing to leave an impact in the first half of 2024, the 20-year-old came back strongly and clinched the China Open trophy in October. She didn’t stop there and went on to lift the season finale trophy in Riyadh last month. Now that she’s free from the court, Gauff is leaving no chance in enjoying her holiday to the fullest. And what can be better than going for a movie outing?
In an Instagram story, dated December 8, Coco posted a picture from inside a theater, revealing that she went on a ‘Wicked’ ride. “I’m not a musical girly butt this was really good!!! 10!!”, she wrote while giving her honest review for the film. Seems, she really loved it. The film shows a young woman named Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) with green skin forming an unlikely friendship with Glinda (Ariana Grande) who’s a student with an extreme urge for popularity. However, their bond reaches a crossroad following an encounter with the Wizard of Oz.

Wicked released in the US on November 22 during a Thanksgiving week. In just few days, it’s turned into a domestic blockbuster, earning almost $320 million so far. Coming back to Coco, she’s not just enjoying her break by watching movies. Everyone is aware of the fact that she also loves music. But she had a different opinion to share recently while diving into a never-ending battle between two of the most popular streaming platforms.
Coco Gauff reacts on Spotify vs Apple Music debate
In a social media post, dated December 6, Coco Gauff highlighted that people generally using Spotify’s ‘Wrapped’ feature to reveal their year-end summary of all the streamed songs, artists, and playlists. On the other hand, Apple Music’s ‘Replay’ doesn’t get as much love. But it seems like she adores both of the platforms. It was evident from her X post where she tried to convey that Apple Music Replay is also extremely good.

What’s your perspective on:
Spotify or Apple Music: Which side are you on in Coco Gauff's musical showdown?
Have an interesting take?
“Why is everyone an Apple Music hater?? We get to see our top albums, top genres, have spatial audio, and get a monthly replay report on top of the yearly one. I like Spotify, but the fan base can’t stand to see an Apple Music screenshot. You would think I killed their dog, chile,” wrote the young tennis sensation. This reaction came following a post from her in which she had dropped screenshots from her Apple Music Replay, revealing she spent 28,882 minutes on the app. “my replay if anyone cares lol”, she wrote.
Coco’s intense reaction is obvious, given her sheer musical love. In a previous interview during Indian Wells event, she had expressed her thoughts on why she’s obsessed with listening songs while being on-the-go. “Some people don’t know this, before I go on court I like to play loud music because I actually don’t like to hear you guys when I walk on bc it makes me nervous. So I put on music.”
