Coco Gauff likes to keep her family away from on-court discussions

Recently, after facing a fourth-round exit from the tournament, there was a bit of relaxation for Coco Gauff since she was playing in her home country. But when asked at the post-match conference whether she likes to spend time talking about her matches with her family, Gauff answered that she preferred to keep the tennis discussion limited to her coaches. “Yeah, I usually just talk with my team. I love my family, but I don’t think they could give me any advice for on the court. Yeah, I just talk about it with my team. Yeah, that goes for every match, though.”

Preferring to keep her personal and professional lives separate, Gauff focuses on on-court performance discussions with her coaches. Subsequently, even after struggling with an unexpected loss, she also revealed a silver lining: going to a major 45-minute advantage will help her get over the victory and spend time with her family.

Gauff’s advantage of playing in her home country

The 2023 Grand Slam champion talked about the emotional toll of losing in the fourth round and also highlighted how she can make things easier for herself just by going home, which is literally 40–45 minutes away from the tournament itself.

Gauff mentioned, “Yes and no. I think I’m the type of person who every loss kind of weighs on me heavy, especially one like today where I felt like I could have done better and I felt like I had the match in control, especially after the second. Honestly, if anything, it kind of helps being home so I can just drive and be home and be in my own bed (smiling).”
