‘Holding on to My Seat..’ – 42-Year-Old Venus Williams Turns Nostalgic as She Remembers Retired Sister Serena Williams’ Final Glory

Tennis legend, 42-year-old Venus Williams made a dashing comeback to the court at the Auckland Classic recently. While the internet is taken by the Venus storm after a long eighteen months, Venus talked about how she loves coming to the ASB Classic for a personal reason. On Monday, Venus Williams confessed why the tournament has a special place in her heart and it is adorable.

After clinching victory against fellow American Katie Volynets, Venus engaged in a short post-match interview. The legendary tennis player talked about how her sister, Serena Williams won there the last time. According to Venus, that makes Auckland Classic her “favorite” place.

Venus Williams is all about the “big sister pride”

As Venus went on to reminisce about her little sister’s victory at the Auckland Classic against Jessica Pegula, the crowd was taken back to another redefining “comeback” moment in tennis. Serena clinched victory after almost three years at the Auckland Classic in 2020. In the very same way, ASB brought Venus her much-awaited victory after a dry spell of about 18 months.

Venus said, “This is one of my favorite places to come, so I’m so excited that I made it here. I remember the last time that I was here, Serena won.”

It comes as no surprise after witnessing the adorable Williams sisters’ relationship that Venus was undoubtedly happy for Serena that day. As she herself said, “I remember watching and holding on to my seat, it was a great match.”

The tennis legend did not forget to thank her fans for staying back the entire time. This match particularly, was not the easiest one in Venus’ career as it had a rain break that lasted for more than an hour.

Venus expressed her gratitude to her fans. She said, “It was so great to see you guys come out, and stay this late outside in this weather. So thank you, and I’m happy to get a win today against a great opponent.”

Venus is all set to enter the Australian Open 2023 with her wildcard entry

Venus is making a wildcard entry at the Australian Open 2023. This year will be her 22nd season in the tournament after her debut in 1998. According to her, she is fortunate to play for her Australian fans this season.

When Serena announced her sudden time-off from tennis, it is Venus on who the Williams fans pinned their hopes. While it seems like the Auckland Classic is definitely lucky for the sisters, the Australian Open is a magnificent chance for Venus to carry on her winning streak.
