‘Cried the Entire Morning’ – Maria Sharapova on Oscar-Winning Film CODA

The 94th Academy Awards ended with much fanfare last week. The film CODA won the Oscar for ‘Best Picture’. It is a musical drama film based on the life of an aspirational singer. The movie is an adaptation of the French movie ‘La Famille Bélier’. Recently, the former World Number 1, Maria Sharapova expressed her emotions after watching the movie.
Further, it was a memorable evening not just for the film fraternity, but for tennis too. The movie ‘King Richard’, based on the life of Venus and Serena Williams’ father, Richard Williams, tasted success at the Oscars.

Will Smith, who played the leading role of Richard Williams in the movie, was crowned as the ‘Best Actor’. It was an emotional evening for the King Richard family in general and the Williams sisters in particular.

Maria Sharapova left emotional after watching the film CODA
The five-time Grand Slam champion took to Instagram and was full of praise for the Oscar-winning film. She said, “Also watched this on Sunday and cried the entire morning. Happy tears to a beautiful story.”
Also in the fray to win the ‘Best Picture’ award were Belfast, Don’t Look Up, Drive My Car, Dune, King Richard, Licorice Pizza, Nightmare Alley, The Power of the Dog, and West Side Story. However, CODA was selected as the best amongst the best to win the Oscar.

Maria Sharapova, who announced her retirement in 2020, won five Majors and 36 titles overall in her glittering career. Defeating Serena Williams in the final to win Wimbledon 2004 at the age of just 17 was perhaps the biggest moment of Sharapova’s successful career.
