Taylor Swift has once broken all the set records with her new album, ‘Midnights’. The singer-songwriter is well-renowned for her iconic music as well as music videos. In her ‘Lover’ album, the player used the tennis court set to recruit her father as the chair umpire. And it was not just that. She portrayed how things would have been different if Serena Williams were a man and then she had on-court outbursts.

Swift’s father was playing the role of the chair umpire and Swift, was acting as a male player. The whole depiction was how male and female on-court outbursts are seen differently.

Taylor Swift used Serena Williams for her music video reference

Taylor Swift has uprooted all the set records by becoming the first artist ever to reign over the US Top 10 list. All 13 of her songs are in the Top 15 list after the release of her ‘Midnights’ album. However, right now we will talk about her other iconic album, ‘Lover’. She shot a scene of one of her songs, ‘The Man’ on a tennis court. Her father depicted the role of a chair umpire.

The singer-songwriter through her song depicts the way things would have been easier for her if she were a man. It was also a symbol of how Serena Williams was criticized for her on-court outbursts but that was not the case for the male players. It showed the double standards that society has for female players.

So, to show the essence of that song, she herself played the role of a man. In the ‘Behind the Scenes’ video of the music video, Swift said, “So, we have a very special performance in this video and that is my Dad playing the umpire of the tennis match.”

Further explaining the video, she said, “I have a royal meltdown because the umpire calls my shot out, and basically I started pelting my Dad with tennis balls; which was I think exhilarating for both of us. I think it was a real bonding experience.”
