The final score was 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 in favor of Townsend. She played aggressively, hitting 32 winners and scoring 87 points, while Ngounoue managed 67. Despite not getting any aces in her serves, Townsend showed great control with just one double fault throughout the match.

Townsend broke Ngounoue five times, converting 56% of her chances. She had a solid 71% accuracy with her first serves, winning 62% of those points and an impressive 76% on her second serves. Townsend’s outstanding performance sets the stage for an exciting journey in Indian Wells.

Magda Linette, currently ranked 54th, began her Indian Wells journey after a challenging start to 2024. With a 3-7 win-loss record, including a 3-7 performance on hard courts, Linette faced a tough defeat in Dubai on February 18th. In her last match, she lost to Hibino in a closely contested battle with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.

Despite this setback, Linette’s overall career reflects a resilient player with a 408-339 record. Notably, she maintains a positive 209-166 record on hard courts. As she steps onto the courts of Indian Wells, Linette will be determined to turn the tide and showcase her true potential in the tournament.
