After working on it for 15 months with partners like the University of Ottawa and the Canadian Center for Mental Health and Sport (CCSMS), Tennis Canada is set to reveal a new plan.

This plan aims to improve the well-being of everyone involved in Canadian tennis, including players and coaches. It’s not just a random decision, they’re using science and data to shape their approach. The move comes after the launch of the Mental Health Strategy for High-Performance Sport in Canada by CCSMS in 2021, showing a commitment to learning and adapting for the betterment of mental health in the sport.

While talking about the project, Valerie Tetreault, one of the former players and now the director of the National Bank Open opened up about the initiative while suggesting that this should have been in place when she was there. “As a former player, I would have liked this plan to have been there when I was playing,” admitted Valérie Tétreault. “Especially to ensure the transition between the junior and professional ranks.”

Thus, Tennis Canada has now come up with a huge plan that will help the players deal with all the challenges that surround mental health.
