“Pain Goes Straight to the Brain”- Simona Halep Opens Up on Her Uphill Battle Against Herniated Disc

After having a pretty impressive 2020 season, the World No.2 Simona Halep shared a small film about herself. She posted the film cum documentary on Twitter, which had different phases of her life.
In the video, Halep talked extensively about her hernias and how she was managing them. They were something that started to occur when she was a teenager and thus added problems for her.
“I had my first back issue at 17 and they told me I was the youngest patient with a herniated disc. I have about 4 hernias. They are not easy to manage,” said a strong Halep.

For those fans who are unaware, Hernia is the medical condition of bulging of an organ or tissue through an abnormal opening. It requires constant effort to treat the same.
“I have been exercising daily since 2008. I’ve had to strengthen the muscles adjacent to my spine really well so that they keep my discs aligned,” added the Romanian player.

While addressing her hernia issue, Halep also said that everybody was under some sort of pain and how it used to affect an individual.
“We’re constantly in some sort of pain. It’s really tough because the pain goes straight to the brain. It’s as if it stabs you in the back, the heart, the head, I don’t know,” continued the 2-time Grand Slam winner.

However, Halep also revealed what she learned from Rafa about handling pain.
“I remember Nadal at some point saying-If it doesn’t hurt, there is something wrong,” acknowledged the World No.2.

Despite all the pain, Simona Halep has played brilliantly in the previous 2-3 seasons. She will definitely want to carry forward her momentum and will be eyeing the Australian Open 2021 title.
