The 2022 US Open was a tournament that was sad for tennis fans. Prior to the championship, Serena Williams had announced that it would be her last tournament before she hung up the racket. Unfortunately, Williams was eliminated in the third round by Ajla Tomljanovic. Prior to the match, Tomljanovic received hilarious advice from a former American tennis legend to beat the Queen of the Court, which she revealed in the Break Point docuseries.

Along with the advice she received from her mentor, Evert also revealed how the Australian player underwent significant changes in the past few months. However, Evert would be remiss to talk about developments without teasing the WTA number 58.

Ajla Tomljanovic on strange advice from mentor

The moments leading up to the third round of the 2022 US Open were intense. The Queen of the Court had managed to beat her first two opponents and was ready to face Tomljanovic. While Williams put up a great fight, she played her last match prior to retirement. Evert simply told Tomljanovic to play with confidence and not to let the astounding support of Williams bother her. However, she worded it quite dramatically in her feature on Break Point.

Evert said, “Look, you gotta show some balls out there.. You gotta show some b***s.. She’s American, they’re going to be cheering for her. Don’t let that bother you, ok? Honestly, it’s nothing personal.”
