Serena Williams Teams Up With Tech Firm for Increasing the Opportunities for Black Engineers

American Tennis star Serena Williams is one of the best female players ever to play the game. She has dominated the tennis world for over two decades now. This has allowed Serena to get worldwide recognition. Many aspiring young women consider her their role model. However, the queen of tennis has also been an avid investor. Williams has been investing in technology for years and heads her own venture capital firm, Serena Ventures.
The 40-year-old belongs to the African American community. And is one of the most eminent black personalities in America. As a part of the community, she understands the challenges and hardships faced by fellow African Americans. Also, from time to time, she has invested her time and money in the upliftment of society.

Serena Williams Invests in a Startup to Launch Program for Aspiring Black Engineers
As her contribution to the black community of America, Serena has teamed up with Karat. Notably, the company helps businesses conduct technical interviews. In a “strategic” capacity, the objective is to double the number of Black software engineers working in the technology industry. Serena wants to see more African American engineers in the US tech industry. Notably, only 5% of engineers in America are African American.
Speaking about the investment, Serena said that tech solves many problems. And this solution should have an equal representation of all the communities.

“The tech industry is focused on solving some of the biggest global challenges. My goal is to ensure that solutions to these challenges are developed by all of us,” she said.
She added that the black community has always faced the problem of limited access and opportunities. And her investment in a company like Karat will be a help to provide them with the same.
“Black: only limits to access and opportunities. That’s why I’m proud to partner with companies like Karat,” she added.

Serena will serve the role of a “Champion of Brilliance.” She will teach the importance of practice and building a championship mindset. To help participants land their dream job in tech.
Serena Ventures Raised Over 100 Million Fund
Williams started her firm, Serena Ventures, about eight years ago. The firm led by the tennis star is already an active angel investor with a portfolio of about 60 companies. All backed by her own money. Although the venture capital firm is in an early stage, it has raised an initial fund of $111 million.
