Simona Halep has suffered through a highly dramatic and uncertain period in the last year. Traces of Roxadustat were found in her blood, which led to her being provisionally banned from the sport. After facing the ban for several months, she was given an even bigger shock as a ban of four years was handed to her. It would be a damning judgment for anyone.

During that time, several players came forward to support Halep as she challenged the decision of the Independent Tribunal, which banned her. Halep recently revealed that Novak Djokovic and Chris Evert were at the forefront in a recent interview. She appeared in an exclusive with CNN Romania, where she talked about the support she received.

As per Halep, Evert was one of the first tennis stars to reach out to her publicly when the decision was made. She said, “Chris Evert wrote me 2 minutes after i received the decision”. Evert wasted no time reaching out to the Romanian star, as such a decision would severely affect anyone’s mentality.

Along with her, Djokovic also messaged before the initial decision and the recent update provided to her. “Djokovic messaged me before and now”, she told CNN. Additionally, a fan account of hers also said Angelique Kerber, Petra Kvitova, and Ashleigh Barty also sent her messages to check up on her, and she replied with pictures of her baby.

When Simona Halep initially challenged the decision, she denied any conscious intake of Roxadustat. However, an interview with her former coach revealed that it was indeed in her system. The Romanian player felt betrayed and spoke out against Patrick Mouratoglou. But, her 4-year sentence was reduced to 9 months, with an exception to play in an upcoming WTA 1000.
