The biggest event in all of sport, the Tokyo Olympics, is all set to enthrall fans from tomorrow. An important tradition at the Olympics are the athletes who will be given the honor to carry their country’s flag. Former world number one Petra Kvitova received the privilege of being one of the flag-bearers for Czech Republic at the opening ceremony tomorrow.

Petra Kvitova will be the flag-bearer for Czech Republic at Tokyo Olympics
Kvitova, who has been having a rough phase on the WTA tour this year, is looking forward for a successful Olympic campaign to bounce back to form.
The Czech player participated in 2016 Rio Olympics, which marked her debut at the event. She made her debut count by winning the bronze medal after defeating American Sloane Stephens in three sets.

Kvitova took to twitter to express her gratitude over the decision to carry the flag tomorrow. Along with her, Czech Republic’s NBA star Tomas Storansky will be sharing the honor.

Considering her latest form, it will be a tough path to glory for the Czech player at Tokyo. With her huge serve and forehand combination, she’s still a fierce opponent to face.
Also, Kvitova’s record on hard-courts is also a positive sign for some success to the two-time grand slam champion. After winning the Qatar Open earlier this year, the Czech player made quarter-final runs in a couple of clay-court events(Madrid and Rome).
A brief stint at the French Open caused due to an unexpected foot injury shifted Kvitova’s focus on the grass season, where she reached the semis at Bad Homburg Open in Germany. She was ousted by Angelique Kerber in the final four.

At Wimbledon Championships, where Kvitova was a tw0-time champion, she faced a tough opening-round challenge in the form of Sloane Stephens. Despite playing her natural game, Kvitova’s unforced errors proved costly as she lost the match in three sets.
Coming to Tokyo Olympics, the former world number one will face Italian Jasmine Paolini in her first-round matchup, which is scheduled on July 25th at Ariake Tennis Center.
