“Still Far From My Level”: Simona Halep Skeptical Regarding Her Performance at National Bank Open 2021

World No.10 Simona Halep is making a return to the court at the National Bank Open 2021. She missed the French Open, Wimbledon Championships, and then the Tokyo Olympics 2020 due to an injury, but now seems fine enough to make a comeback.
In the pre-tournament press conference, Halep revealed that she does not have huge expectations at the National Bank Open 2021. She believes that she is yet to reach her best level and thus, seems skeptical about her performance at the WTA Masters 1000 tournament.
“I am still far from my level. I don’t expect anything big from this tournament,” said Halep in the press conference.

Halep is returning the court after about three months. As a result, her priority is to regain her form and momentum ahead of the US Open 2021, and therefore, she is playing the National Bank Open 2021 as a warm-up tournament.

Simona Halep “enjoyed” her three-month break from tennis
Halep missed quite a lot of important tennis events during her break. As a result, her WTA ranking dropped from three to ten over the course of three months. However, she feels that she enjoyed her time off the court felt like nothing mattered to her except to recover from her injury.

“I was home for three months, and I enjoyed the time. I felt like nothing mattered anymore, just to recover from injury. I’m really excited to be here,” added the two-time Grand Slam champion.
