She recently announced her retirement from the doubles and did so in a very emotional way that even tennis fans praised the seven-time Grand Slam champion for her incredible act of selflessness as a sister.

After being out from the Tennis circuit for 6 months now the 42-year-old tennis player is all set to make a comeback on the grass court this month. However, with this happy comeback news, she also gave the very shocking news that she won’t be playing Doubles anymore. In a question-and-answer session over her Instagram, she shared the news of how with her sister’s retirement from the sport influenced her decision.

The former world number one has left tennis fans all around the world in despair with the doubles retirement news. In a recent tweet, her sentiments were shared with her fans. “When Serena retired I retired from doubles as well. When you have Serena Williams as a partner you have seen the glory at the mountaintop, you can’t go any higher! Sorry I don’t have better news.” she said.

However, seeing that news, fans flooded the comment section with their messages regarding how the 42-year-old tennis player set the record straight about her doubles participation. 

A fan wrote, Venus was ALWAYS more loyal to little sister than the other way around. This arguably is the difference between their career successes. Selfless champion.” 

Other fans addressed that Venus was an amazing doubles partner.

A fan also pointed out her big sister’s kind act.

In addition, some fans pointed out how they are just going to miss the iconic sister duo.

Well, last year at the US Open, where the 23-time Grand Slam champion called off her tennis career, the amazing Williams duo performed for the last time in front of the tennis crowd.

Williams’ duo’s double act marked the final exit 

While everyone was preparing to see Serena’s charm on the tennis court for the final time last year, they were unaware that her Doubles match with her older sister would end up being the last. Their final doubles match received special scheduling and played in prime time because it was such a crucial moment to watch them play together.

The two were inseparable; they actually shared 14 Grand Slam victories, including four each at the Australian and French Open, six each at Wimbledon, and two each at the US Open. Additionally, they have earned three Olympic gold medals, making them unquestionably one of the greatest tennis doubles teams in history.
