Even though Emma Raducanu earned a huge name after her US Open 2021 triumph, 19-year-old Leylah Fernandez also broke into headlines. She was the runner-up of the Grand Slam and defeated the likes of Aryna Sabalenka, Naomi Osaka, and Elina Sviltona to clinch her spot in the finale.

In a recent interview to Puntodebreak.com, Leylah Fernandez admitted that she missed her father at the US Open 2021. Even though her mother and sister extended their support to her from the stands, her father could not travel to New York.

“As a daughter, of course I would have liked to have him there with me in New York, he is my father. But honestly, I am happy with how we did things, as an athlete I am also very superstitious. If something changes, I know that I would not have been happy or calm playing, it would have bothered me,” said Fernandez in the interview. Interestingly, Fernandez revealed that she is quite a superstitious person. Thus, she mentioned that she was cheerful with how her father continued to encourage her from Canada. She clearly tried to hint that although she was upset that as a daughter, her dad was not in New York, yet as an athlete, she was happy because his presence would have bothered her.
