Venus and Serena Williams have been two of the greatest players on the women’s circuit over the last 20 years. They have enthralled tennis fans by putting on impressive performances on the court. While Serena has gone on to win 23 Grand Slam titles, her elder sister Venus has seven major titles to her credit.

Last year, Serena retired midway through her first-round encounter at Wimbledon Championships. The American legend slipped on the wet grass and injured her hamstring, which ruled her out for the rest of the 2021 season. Subsequently, Venus also suffered a leg injury and hasn’t been on the court since.

Venus and Serena Williams’ names missing from the Wimbledon entry list

Recently, the entry list for the Wimbledon Championships 2022 was released. However, Serena and Venus’ names were missing in women’s singles.

While Serena’s last competitive match was in June 2021, Venus last played at the WTA Chicago Women’s Open in August last year. Although the two are officially absent in singles competition, there is a possibility that they might team up to play doubles.

Not to forget, the Williams sisters have been one of the most successful teams in women’s doubles. Together, they have clinched 14 Grand Slam titles. Additionally, they also have won three Olympic gold medals in women’s doubles while pairing up as a team.

Serena to suffer a massive blow to her WTA ranking

Earlier this year, Wimbledon announced a ban on Russian and Belarusian athletes owing to the Eastern European conflict. As a result, the WTA and the ATP stripped the tournament of ranking points. Thus, even if Serena would have played at Wimbledon this year, she would have lost the ranking points earned last season.
