The Boston crowd stood on its feet to welcome hometown hero Mercedes Mone to American pro wrestling after two long years. Mone, who last performed in the US as Sasha Banks in WWE, received a huge pop from the crowd. Her loud entrance music had muffled in the background as the AEW arena kept chanting, “CEO! CEO!” over and over.
The online reception of Mone also proved how elated the fans were to see her finally make landfall in AEW. The WWE Universe believed that she would perform for them as Sasha Banks once again. However, The CEO didn’t choose to become The Boss again. In fact, a recent interview of hers saw Mone subtly downplaying the love she received from WWE fans.

Sasha Banks had exited WWE back in 2022 and joined NJPW in January 2023. While she thrived in Japan and also loved the experience herself, her US fanbase dearly missed her. A huge chunk of this fanbase was naturally from the WWE Universe who wanted The Boss to headline another WrestleMania. But Sasha Banks recently watered down this support with her appearance on ‘Kwani Has Questions.’ When asked about AEW’s crowd response in TD Garden, Mone said, “It felt, I’m still in such a high, still have goosebumps because it’s been almost two years since I’ve been on American television.”

"The eruption was the biggest eruption I've ever felt and I've been in professional wrestling for 14 years."
"I really found my home in AEW"

She played up the role her fans have played in conveying their utmost support. “But honestly, my fans really didn’t make me feel like I was gone. I was trending every single day,” the new AEW star said. This, however, was followed by giving credit to AEW fans instead of WWE fans.

“Just the CEO chants when my name dropped and I walked through those tunnels. The eruption was the biggest eruption I’ve ever felt and I’ve been in professional wrestling for 14 years, she said.
Banks also added, “I had the biggest goosebumps, I had the biggest smile and I just felt so complete. I really found my home in AEW.” While these words were a hit with the AEW crowd, it was a big hit to the WWE Universe.
Out of the 14 years, Mercedes Mone has wrestled, 10 of them were spent as Sasha Banks in WWE. While it is clear that she left WWE because of creative differences, she still has a cordial relationship with the fans. In fact, fans even supported her when she made her WWE exit.

Sasha Banks is still one of the biggest WWE Women’s Division Superstars who remain untouched in several aspects. Her charismatic persona and fighting style reached soaring heights because of the crowd response. She also became the first woman to reach several laurels in WWE.
While it may seem that Sasha Banks may have turned her back on the WWE Universe, it may not be the case. Emotions usually tend to run high amongst pro wrestling fans and it is easy to misinterpret certain things.
