Former NJPW Superstar Kazuchika Okada has finally made his move to the United States and joined Tony Khan’s AEW. The 36-year-old made his official debut as he joined the Young Bucks as their third fighting member. His arrival was highly anticipated and fans are excited to see what the Japanese pro wrestler has in store for them.
While Kazuchika Okada showcased a sliver of his in-ring work talent to the audience, how are his mic and promo skills? Being a native of a non-English-speaking nation, it won’t be unnatural if the Japanese star does not speak English. But appearances can be deceptive. Kazuchika Okada says he has been to the US before

In an interview with the NJPW, Kazuchika Okada said that he has already frequented the US on multiple occasions. Branching out from his career in Japan, Okada arrived in Mexico for pro wrestling, and thus, also did excursion shows in the US. Speaking about the language barriers, the Japanese star said that he can handle himself. Okada said, “I can just about muddle through. I tried to study, but when I actually got over there, there wasn’t much time for anything but wrestling. Plus, I knew a few Japanese wrestlers in the area, too.” The AEW star also revealed that he tried to sharpen his language skills by studying English.

Kazuchika Okada noted, “What I would actually do to study was walk around the neighborhood with a dictionary on me, and listen to the people on the street, then try and look up what they said.”
The 5x IGWP Heavyweight Champion said that this was before the time of smartphones, but he still prefers a physical dictionary. Notably, Kazuchika Okada revealed that he had very different experiences in Mexico and the US.

While he had to make his way through both Spanish and English, Okada still had a good time in Mexico. However, the Japanese pro wrestler said that he had a very tough experience in the US. Moreover, language wasn’t the only problem he faced because of having semi-fluent English.
What made Okada’s stay in the US harsh?
Kazuchika Okada told NJPW that, unlike Mexico, the US didn’t have Japanese pro wrestlers when he was there. Thus, he lost his mini comfort zone, which he enjoyed down South. Moreover, wrestlers only showed up when they had matches, and didn’t stay after they were done with their part.

Already restricted because of semi-fluent English, Kazuchika Okada couldn’t bond with people because of this. Moreover, he described that he had a very lonesome time in America, as he had to do everything on his own.
