“First Opponent”: Sasha Banks’ First AEW Match as Mercedes Mone Guessed Ahead of Rumored Return

Former IWGP Women’s Champion Mercedes Mone FKA Sasha Banks has been the talk of the wrestling world for several months as her future has been up in the air. Rumors had suggested that she would return to WWE while others claimed that she would stay in Japan. However, the reality of things differed from those rumors. The former WWE star is expected to make her AEW debut, especially given the announcement of the “Big Business” TV special the company will host in her hometown on March 13.

If Mone joins AEW, she will have access to a locker room full of women who have dreamed of facing her. It seems like AEW has finally chosen an opponent for her. And it is none other than Serena Deeb. How do we know that? Well, the prospect of that matchup was teased in her recent promo.

Serena Deeb emerges as the “final boss” for The Boss

Serena Deeb has been winning in the AEW women’s division since she started competing again in January. She has already defeated AEW stars such as Robyn Renegade, Queen Aminata, and most recently Lady Frost. Following her most recent victory on Collison, Deeb cut a promo in which she declared herself to be “unstoppable.” Moreover, she extended an invitation to every woman on the roster to “step into Deeb’s Dojo.” However, the part that caught everyone’s attention when she called herself “The Final Boss.” She said, “Test yourself against the most elite wrestler. Because I’ll be here each and every week showing the world that nobody can do what I do in the ring and why I am ‘The Final Boss.” 

And now, another insider has claimed that the matchup will come to fruition on AEW’s Dynasty PPV.

‘The Boss’ is the moniker of Mercedes Mone and this moniker is the reason why everyone believes that she will be a part of AEW. When the poster for AEW Dynamite: Big Business was revealed, in the background the city of Boston was spelled ‘Bo$$ton, a reference to the moniker. So this subtle hint with Deeb calling herself the ‘Boss’ surely got the fans’ attention.

After the promo was released, fans were quick to rush to social media to share their thoughts on the match. After all, we were all excited to see what AEW has to offer. While many expected a title shot from the very beginning, a matchup to develop Mone first wouldn’t be a bad idea. And fans surely love the matchup too as they caught the reference.
