The topic of Matt Hardy’s WWE return alongside his brother has been prevalent over the rumor mills ever since his attendance during the March 18 taping of WWE RAW. A surprise WrestleMania XL appearance from The Hardy Boyz was mooted too. While that dream didn’t materialize at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, hope still shines bright with Matt Hardy continuing the prospect of a potential return. Nevertheless, despite all the hype, WWE veteran Eric Bischoff sees it as an unnecessary call, and here’s why.

Eric Bischoff remarks that the prospect of a Hardy Boys return serves no “big need”

Matt Hardy tried his hand at something new in the spring of 2020 as he inked a deal with AEW. After wrestling for four years in an eventful stint, the 49-year-old has pulled the curtains on his AEW tenure. With this, he officially turned into a lucrative free agent, re-igniting the rumors of an impending WWE return. His repeated hints on social media made it even more obvious.

However, even if a return materializes anytime soon, it won’t please WWE critic Eric Bischoff, who thinks, right at the moment the return of the Hardy Boys is not very compulsory at all.

During the latest episode of his 83 Weeks podcast, Bischoff noted, ”If there’s no need if there’s not a vacancy if there’s not a slot to be filled it makes it a little more difficult and I think right now with the stories with the talent with everything going the way it’s going in WWE I just don’t feel that there’s a big need.”

However, regardless of the former WWE figure’s opinion, the Hardy Boys has kept on sowing the seed of their return. Let’s look at the latest teaser the elder Hardy dropped.

Matt Hardy’s latest tweet speaks of the timeline of their potential WWE return

The Hardy Boys have had a glorious run in WWE that changed the landscape of pro wrestling forever. In fact, Matt Hardy once expressed his hope of earning a Hall of Fame induction for both as a singles competitor and for being part of the iconic Hardy Boys tag team. And it seems nowadays, the former AEW wrestler is reminiscing that precious past a little more than usual.

Taking to his X account, Matt Hardy posted a clip of a WWE match featuring Jeff Hardy and Triple H for the Intercontinental Championship. In the match, the elder Hardy helped his brother to pick up the win. But the most significant thing about this is the timeline of the match.

It is from the April 12, 2001, episode of SmackDown, which perfectly denoted the current post-WrestleMania season. With them missing out on The Show of Shows, are the Hardy Boys returning to the blue brand anytime soon?
