Sasha Banks has been quite the elusive one ever since rumors of her making a switch started to float on social media. Mercedes Martinez is joining All Elite Wrestling (AEW), confirmed by Fightful Select and Andrew Zarian of Mat Men Radio. According to Fightful Select, Sasha Banks has not yet severed her ties with New Japan Pro Wrestling. Moreover, she may also fight in the squared circle of Stardom. AEW announced a special Dynamite episode titled “Big Business” at TD Garden, reportedly confirming Mercedes’ involvement.

Martinez has been on AEW’s payroll for a while now, with details emerging about her deal length, potential obstacles, her past with WWE, and future plans in Japan.

In an April 2023 conversation with Sports Illustrated, Sasha Banks said, “I wanted to make new history, and the place to do it is here in Japan. Japan has the highest standards for women’s wrestling, and I want to set the standard in New Japan.” She further mentioned how hard it is to thrive in Japanese pro wrestling due to it being an inherent physical slugfest and not just a glamorous affair.
Sasha Banks also talked about her love for Japan and its culture and how much she is enjoying it there. Naturally, she would not like to abandon the treasure trove, which is rewarding her so much. But, this can lead to several problems with AEW.

If Banks keeps switching between Japan and the US, this will result in several scheduling clashes. Moreover, AEW may not be able to take Sasha Banks on all of its PPVs. This is problematic since AEW has signed Mone as a five-star recruit. However, Tony Khan might have outlined the specifics of the deal considering the costs involved. His ability to collaborate with other wrestling promotions could provide him with the edge to figure out what works best for all parties. Will this contract work out properly for all parties?
