Sometimes WWE posts something on social media that feels like a deliberate dig at former WWE Superstars. For example, the social media team put up a reel where John Cena and AJ Mendez aka AJ Lee are kissing!

Now, of course, they put it up as a Valentine’s Day post to celebrate the day of love. Considering almost everything inside the ring is about rivalry and fights, the few moments of love are cherished by the WWE Universe.

But, maybe WWE could have chosen any other moment such as Lana kissing Bobby Lashley, Beth Phoenix kissing The Great Khali, or even Kurt Angle kissing Stephanie McMahon. None of the above have beef with WWE the way CM Punk does.

Hence, WWE choosing to put out a video which shows John Cena kissing Punk’s wife, AJ Mendez, comes off as a subtle dig at Punk.

John Cena has been away from WWE since SummerSlam 2021

The Champ’s last appearance was at SummerSlam 2021. He went up against Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship.

He returned to the company at Money in the Bank 2021 and started a feud with Roman Reigns that lasted all the way till SummerSlam 2021. When he left again, he promised to be back soon. However, it doesn’t seem like he’ll come back anytime soon.

When Cena did come back, his entire Hollywood schedule was on hold. Even though WWE offered to work selective dates, The Champ volunteered to work all the dates because he didn’t want to disappoint any fans.

On the days when he wasn’t on TV, Cena worked in dark matches. In fact, he worked in a couple of dark matches after SummerSlam 2021. As of now, he’s not actively working with WWE anymore.

It’s unknown if he plans to come back anytime soon considering his Hollywood schedule is quite packed. After the huge success of The Peacemaker series, he’ll start shooting for the movies that he has already signed contracts for.

However, there’s a higher chance of him returning sometime in the future. John Cena doesn’t want to leave WWE or retire from the ring until he’s worked his official retirement match.
