Cody Rhodes was the first major wrestler to make the jump from AEW to WWE. It sent a lot of shockwaves among the wrestling industries since Rhodes had also held the position of an EVP at AEW. Many wrestlers have followed suit by joining WWE. CM Punk, Jade Cargill, and Andrade El Idolo are some of the other big names who recently left AEW. Rhodes in his documentary stated the reason to be a “personal issue”. Speculation has been rampant among fans since then. What is the actual relationship between the EVPs who founded AEW?
The Young Bucks break kayfabe to praise Cody Rhodes
In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Nicholas and Matthew Jackson spoke about their journey, and their upcoming match with Sting and Darby Allin. They also divulged their true dynamic with Rhodes. Nick Jackson stated, “Cody is the face of the WWE now, and it’s cool to see because we always knew how much of a star he was.”

He further explained how even though they didn’t see each other at work often like before the distance between them has not affected their friendship. In fact it’s the opposite, as their bond has grown stronger. Nick continued, “The founders of AEW will always have a lifetime bond with each other because we all know what we did for wrestling. We talk every week and in a weird way him leaving made us grow more as friends.”

This just goes on to show that, unlike the yesteryears, superstars from rival promotions do not have bad blood with each other just because they are competing against each other. However, that’s not always the case. The Young Bucks who has endured a troubled past with CM Punk took jibes at him in a subtle manner.

Matt Jackson explained their current gimmick. “AEW is now a much different place than it was five years ago, but I think that same disruptive attitude is still there. So who better to lead the charge than the company’s own EVPs who sought out for that change originally, anyway? “.

The Young Bucks believe they are doing good by leading the company. They then took an apparent dig towards CM Punk by describing him as not fit enough for AEW’s image. Matt continued, “Sometimes you have to protect the thing you love the most, from people who don’t fit the image of what this is supposed to be.”

Even though we might not know the real reason for Rhodes leaving AEW. We can safely assume that The Young Bucks and Cody Rhodes are still good friends.
