Since the day Warner Brothers offered Dwayne Johnson the role of Black Adam, he was optimistic about the character. This optimism really helped The Rock to have a ballistic superhero movie on the big screen.

Johnson’s movies always go big at the box office and even Black Adam is doing so. However, even though it’s definitely an overall success, the film wasn’t able to surpass a few other DCEU movies.

Recently, film critic Erik Davis shared a tweet on his Twitter handle in which compared Dwayne Johnson’s earnings in the first week of a DCEU film. Notably, The Rock smashed some of the previous records and made some new ones.

In the tweet, Davis highlighted Black Adam’s opening with a box office collection of $67 million. This is the highest opening collection for the WWE legend in a solo movie.

Moreover, this can be termed as a stronger opening in comparison with the recent DCEU films like The Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, WW84, Super Pets & Lego Batman. The movie surpassed Shazam! That collected $53 million but unfortunately was not able to surpass Aquaman. Both movies have an equal opening weekend collection of $67 million. Also, there are other DCEU major movies such as Wonder Woman, Man of Steel, Batman vs Superman etc. which grossed more than $100 million on opening weekend.

Now, compared to Marvel Cinematic Universe, Black Adam is slightly below Shang-Chi & Eternals. However, Johnson’s work as Teth Adam was to surpass collections of the first Thor & Captain America films.

However, Johnson’s Black Adam wasn’t able to surpass Batman in DCEU. Gotham’s protector surely rules DCEU as five Batman movies are in the seven movies of the studio that have had a $100 million opening.

Black Adam is loved by many fans but poorly reviewed by the critics

Erik Davis, in his complete analysis of Black Adam, talked about the reviews the movie has received. As per Rotten Tomatoes, the film a 90% of the audience’s votes, but 39% of critics’ votes.

Davis writes, “DC’s #BlackAdam wasn’t a critical darling, but it was DEFINITELY a crowdpleaser. The @RottenTomatoes Audience Score is 90%, which tells you the film is entertaining & accessible to general audiences. Imo that’s what you want on a film like this since word-of-mouth will carry it.”
