“A Sad Day,”: Mourning NXT Champion Ilja Dragunov Pays Tribute to Late German Wrestling Star Who Passed Away Recently

Months after fans lost WWE Superstar Bray Wyatt to an untimely death, they bid adieu to 40-year-old German independent wrestler Absolute Andy on November 23. The loss wasn’t limited to just fans as current NXT star Ilja Dragunov, Gunther and other wrestlers joined them in offering condolences.

The loss wasn’t limited to just fans as current NXT star Ilja Dragunov joined them in mourning the death. The deceased wrestler is Absolute Andy, an independent talent based in Germany. Andy passed away on November 23.

Born as Andreas Ullman, Andy was the former wXw Unified World Wrestling Champion. As per reports, the wrestler was battling a prolonged illness. Germany-based promotion wXw mourned the loss with a post on X, formerly Twitter.

Reacting to the post, Dragunov commented: “No words. This is a sad day. Thank you for everything, Andy.” Dragunov, the current NXT Champion, was one of Andy’s opponents, during the latter’s career which lasted two decades.

One of Dragunov’s fiercest rivals in the WWE, current Intercontinental Champion Gunther, also mourned the loss. The Austrian thanked Andy ‘for everything’. “Thanks for everything, Andi!” his tweet in German read.

While we have already mentioned Andy’s rivalry with Gunther and Dragunov, he also locked horns with Bryan Danielson, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Jeff Jarrett and Malakai Black.

Reacting to his former opponent’s untimely demise, Black hailed him as a “larger-than-life character”. “I’m so sorry my friend, thank you for the matches, laughs and being a larger-than-life character. You were fantastic,” Black’s Instagram story read.

His accomplishments in the promotion comprise becoming the 16 Carat Gold Winner, wXw Unified World Wrestling Champion, wXw Shotgun Champion, 5X wXw World Tag Team Champion, and wXw World Heavyweight Champion. These make him the only wrestler in wXw to achieve the aforementioned titles.
