Cody Rhodes has switched promotions pretty often when it comes to his wrestling career. In 2016, the wrestler left WWE. Rhodes then went on to work on himself. People saw the wrestler focusing on various independent wrestling companies and being a free agent.

This sudden shift in his career was interesting for fans. Although he had earlier mentioned how, due to creative differences, he left WWE, Rhodes has now revealed even more details regarding his release. This time it is particularly about how he was not being released from WWE.

Rhodes has been appearing in podcasts and interviews quite often for the last two months. The wrestler recently appeared in one more podcast. During this session, he revealed a crucial detail regarding his WWE release. As fans are aware, Rhodes’ father, Dusty Rhodes, was also a member of WWE during his time. The American Dream won a lot of hearts during his time in the promotion. Due to this, the company was not ready to let go of his son.

Out of respect for the father, WWE wanted to hold on to his son, Cody Rhodes as well. Despite the differences they were having, they were not ready for Rhodes’ harsh decision. “You guys can’t keep me here forever ’cause of respect for someone else, not for respect for me, respect for my dad, and that I can’t stand by. I need you to know me and respect me,” said the former Stardust while recalling the time he was not being released from the company.

Ultimately, the star was released in the year 2016 and decided to follow his passion to wrestle in independent promotions. However, he soon decided to go in a different direction.

In the same interview, Rhodes said, “I made sure they watched every step of it. Even though it was hard to watch.” This was about the fact that he made all the fans follow his career, despite leaving the popular wrestling promotion. He ultimately led everyone to AEW, being a founding member in 2019. Then, the wrestler left it to join WWE at WrestleMania 38, shocking all the fans.

Rhodes added to his words, “I gave it all I had, and I felt very rewarded when I came back. There was respect about it, and understanding.” He is proud of the results of all the decisions that he took regarding this scenario.
