Apart from larger-than-life personas, what makes pro wrestling different from other sports is the kayfabe pulled off by various stars. Throughout the years fans have seen various such kayfabe’s like The Undertaker’s Deadman, Bray Wyatt’s The Fiend, and Eater of the Worlds. But most of these were just restricted to the ring. However, Nikki Cross, who has grabbed the limelight for her latest kayfabe somehow took it one step further.

WWE’s Nikki Cross can’t get out of the trance

Recently Brayon Saxton, who happens to be a commentator and in-ring performer for Raw, posted a picture with Cross. In the photo, fans can see that Cross is in some kind of trance. Moreover, she doesn’t pay heed to anything around her. On the other hand, Saxton looks worried. This new gimmick by Cross has left fans confused and worried about the WWE star. She also happens to be a PhD student.

The newest gimmick by Nikki Cross is confusing, to say the least. The 38-year-old star just stands in a trance, staring at the ceiling and doing nothing. Fans witnessed this for the first time on the 10/30 episode of Raw, where she had teamed up for a Trick or Street Fight match with Natalya to fight Piper Niven and Chelsea Green. During the fight, Cross did nothing, as she was in a trance and stared into the abyss. Due to this, Natalya lost the match.

Quite recently, she was also a part of the women’s battle royale match on the 11/6 episode of Raw. There, she carried on the same gimmick as she stood unresponsive in the ring as action carried on around her. Just at that moment, Raquel Rodriguez and Nia Jax happened to notice her and threw her out of the ring, thus disqualifying her.

Is it time for Nikki Cross to go?

The above statement can be interpreted in two ways. The first one is that fans might see the current Nikki Cross make a departure and the old ‘unhinged’ Nikki Cross make her return to WWE. The gimmick which was loved by fans has been on and off the screen. With Cross being fazed out a lot, there are speculations that maybe in the future she might snap and go berserk.

Another speculation is that it might be due to lazy writing, which usually happens before a talent is about to be released. Vince Russo, who is a pro wrestling booker, feels something like that. He believes that the promotion is intentionally making the former Raw Women’s Champion look bad. Russo believes that she should fight back for this writing. What do you think of Nikki Cross’s new persona? Is this lazy writing or WWE is planning something?

One take at a time

For me pro wrestling has two things that I like the most, storytelling and fighting. Let’s just say movies are failing to keep me entertained in those departments. I grew up watching WWF and not WWE and any hardcore fan will agree that the two are not the same, but I love both iterations.
