Brock Lesnar Called “Genuine” and “Respectful” From Ex-WWE Star Despite Detroying and Humiliating One-Legged Wrestler in Front of His Family

Former WWE superstar Zach Gowen, fondly remembered as the one-legged wrestler who got pummeled by Brock Lesnar back in 2003, was invited as a guest to Chris Van Vliet’s podcast. In the video, uploaded on his YouTube channel on 23rd November, Zach Gowen spoke to Vliet about losing his leg at the young age of 8 and how it impacted his wrestling career.

In one of the segments during his interview, he spoke about the infamous feud with Brock Lesnar. Many fans have distasteful memories of the same, but Gowen does not feel the same about the rivalry.

After losing his leg to cancer at a young age, Gowen joined wrestling. He became a WWE superstar at the young age of 19 and soon feuded against Brock Lesnar, a feud that brought fame to Gowen. While recalling the moment, Gowen praised Lesnar’s backstage behavior. He said, “He was very mean to me on camera and he’s a very sweet man to me off camera.”

The moment in reference is from a singles match featuring Zach Gowen and Brock Lesnar on an episode of SmackDown on August 21st, 2003. The match was witnessed by Gowen’s mother who was sitting in the front row around the ramp area but close to the ring.

The objective behind the match was to build up heat for Brock Lesnar as a heel and gain public sympathy for Gowen as a face. As a result, Gowen made a name for himself among WWE fans as a wrestler with heart, as he was the first one-legged wrestler in the WWE.

Gowen further expressed his feelings for The Beast Incarnate. He said, “I love Brock Lesnar so much. He’s the type of dude that I get along with the best, just salt of the earth. Shows up respectful, does a great job and that’s it.” He further added, “What you see is what you got exactly and a genuine.

Gowen isn’t the only wrestler with a positive opinion of Lesnar. Despite his on-screen persona of a ruthless man with no remorse, Lesnar is praised by many former wrestlers for his behavior.

Former WWE superstar shares the same opinion on Brock Lesnar

Former WWE superstar and WWE tag team legend, Matt Hardy, has also praised Brock Lesnar for his gentle behavior behind the WWE curtains. He expressed his views on his podcast named The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy (Episode #84) which premiered on YouTube on 11th August, 2023.

While praising Brock Lesnar, Matt Hardy said, “He would be very kind, he’d be very grateful. He was appreciative that he was getting this opportunity,” He further added, “[He] wasn’t demanding, wasn’t one of those guys who’s like ‘no, it has to be this way or it’s going to be that”. It solidifies the sentiments of Gowen towards Lesnar.
