5 HUGE Storylines For WWE Return of CM Punk

Former WWE Superstar CM Punk recently came back into the fold of the WWE with his entry into the show ‘WWE Backstage’ on Fox. The former Superstar and UFC fighter signed with Fox as an analyst, so while rumors drummed about his potential return to WWE, nothing concrete emerged.
With Vince McMahon’s recent pattern of rehiring retired Superstars to help the slump in ratings, it would make perfect sense to bring in CM Punk, as he has always been a fan favorite.
His last appearance in the ring was in 2014, and he has made a good career as a commentator and analyst since. Punk recently let the world know who he would love to face if he chose to return. Here’s who we think Punk should face on his potential entry into WWE.

Seth Rollins
Seth was a member of The Shield, who back in the early 2010s were still making a name for themselves. The Shield had collectively helped Punk with his Championship aspirations all the way through. Punk went out when he had accomplished a lot with The Shield, and was seen as their de facto leader. Since CM Punk’s exit from the WWE, two of the members of Shield have made incredibly successful singles careers for themselves. Rollins is one of the members who used his skills and talent to the fullest. Rollins is Championship caliber star, with multiple reigns with the Universal Championship.

Seth has also always seen Punk as a mentor, so the dynamic would be excellent if Punk returned. Moreover, Rollins has always been vocal about his affinity to the organization, which clashes with Punk’s rebellious personality. This would be a matchup for the ages if the WWE makes it happen.
Roman Reigns
The second member of The Shield to make it big, Reigns is arguably the largest and most popular figure in the WWE right now. Barring his recurring health issues, Reigns has been a consistent contender at the championship level since Punk’s exit in 2014. Moreover, Reigns has the unfortunate image of being a corporate creation, which has pitted many fans against him. This image of being made into a star, rather than becoming a star, has resulted in bad fan reception for Reigns for a long time. Punk’s whole gimmick of being an anti-establishment rebel would clash perfectly with that of Reigns.
The two also have history, since Roman was a part of The Shield before he made it big. This matchup would definitely see sparks fly, with different ideologies and personalities clashing.
Daniel Bryan
Punk has had a deep and storied rivalry with Daniel Bryan. Both are technically gifted fighters, with many exciting encounters in the past. Both superstars are also similarly sized, making their ascension to relevance all the more admirable. Punk has also said that he would love to wrestle Daniel Bryan in a previous interview. Both Superstars have been at the top of the WWE, and would make a good, competitive matchup.
AJ Styles
Styles is definitely one of the WWE’s most beloved superstars. His ability as a performer is second to only a couple wrestlers today, and has been recognized by Superstars everywhere. He is a gifted athlete, and a respected wrestler who will definitely clash well with Punk’s explosive style in the ring. The fans could not see a fight with these two performers, since Styles had come into the WWE after Punk’s exit. This may be the perfect time to make it happen.

Perhaps the most interesting of all the picks, Zayn has made a name for himself within the WWE for being a Superstar on the line between a face and a heel. His recent tenure in the WWE has been successful, seeing him become the InterContinental Champion. Zayn has an interesting skill set and needs a small push to be the Superstar that he has the potential to become.

Given the most recent slump in the ratings, the WWE needs to play all its cards to get back into shape. Bringing in CM Punk, the voice of the voiceless, would be a much-needed boost the fans need.
