Cody Rhodes, heading toward the ultimate selling point of his story and of his entire career with the WrestleMania 40 inching closer, has been the talk of the town of late. The rematch between The Tribal Chief and The American Nightmare was a long-awaited call as the fans have been desperately looking for justice for the Beast Slayer ever since the company shattered their hope at last year’s WrestleMania main event. While at this point in time, it almost seems destined, according to a renowned WWE personality, it could go otherwise as well. Or at least there was plans for it.

An alternative to Cody Rhodes’ story explained by WWE veteran

Cody Rhodes has been having his luck on point during Royal Rumble for the past two years. Despite not being able to put his win to his benefit last year, Rhodes again stood tall among 29 other fierce men on the roster during Men’s Royal Rumble 2024. But Rhodes underwent a few threats to reach the win. The natural leader in the clubhouse was the returning CM Punk.

As it was his first Royal Rumble after resuming his stint in the Stamford-based company, there was a huge chance for the creative to tip him as a winner and let him unfold his mojo during a main event match against Seth Rollins during WrestleMania 40. Another big point was the late rise of Gunther. So instead, of making Rhodes and Punk resist each other for some final minutes of the match, WWE had a good reason to tap Cody out much earlier by the Ring General. In that case, letting CM Punk have his flower made some sense.

Capitalizing on this angle, WWE personality and social media expert, Sam Roberts noted, ”Wow! Gunther eliminates Cody now, you have got a whole other story cooking over here which you’re who knows. We go, we don’t go whatever, and then CM Punk wins the Royal Rumble and then if he’s injured we figure that out later we’ll figure it all out but I don’t know I mean what if it’s better that we did it this way?”
