While being in Ohio Valley Wrestling, Brock Lesnar showed tremendous potential. Transitioning from an amateur wrestler to a professional wrestler was indeed challenging for ‘The Beast Incarnate’, but he had the right guidance. Once Lesnar shared how a wrestling legend Jim Cornette guided him with proper knowledge in OVW to be a top WWE superstar. Surprisingly, the 61-year-old legend who backed the now 10-time world champion once claimed to want to shoot Lesnar rather than fight him.

Jim Cornette who once warned to shoot Brock Lesnar guided him years ago!

Brock Lesnar is a quick learner and many wrestling veterans saw the same in him while he was in OVW. Similarly, former head booker, and head trainer of OVW, Jim Cornette was also optimistic about Lesnar being ‘The Next Big Thing’.

In a rare interview with Dave Meltzer in 2001, ‘The Conqueror’ shared how Cornette helped him during his days in OVW. The 46-year-old stated the former WWE official guided him for his matches and even gave him tapes to learn the in-ring psychology of matches.

Lesnar said, “That was Jim Cornette’s idea to give him a double arm suplex but I gave it with a little more authority than I should…No, I just talked to him last night and we laugh about it every time when we see each other…Yeah, it just happened…It just happened that way.”

The three-time Universal Champion added, “Yeah, we watched. We have tapes that we have to watch, training tapes, and so on. Cornette gives us the tapes every couple of weeks to watch old-school wrestling, the good things, the matches that happened long ago. Just good psychology matches.”

Clearly, we can say Lesnar and Cornette had a good mentor-mentee relationship. However, in an interview some time ago, Cornette recalled the former UFC fighter misbehaving with his girlfriend and now-wife Stacy Goff, also known as Synn. Cornette even said he wanted to “shoot” Lesnar after his antics with his girlfriend.

But in that same interview, the 61-year-old shared, Lesnar respects only two people in OVW i.e. Jim Cornette and Danny Davis. Moreover, he also highly respected Vince McMahon as he praised the executive chairman of WWE.

Vince McMahon can make his own top stars

When this interview with Dave Meltzer happened, WWE was in the process to purchase WCW. Many expected stars like Bill Goldberg and Scott Steiner to quickly jump ship to Stamford-based company.

Shockingly, Brock Lesnar made a massive statement, while answering fan questions. The ‘1 in 21-1’ said, “Vince can make anybody into a Scott Steiner or a Goldberg. He can make his own person, I think. That’s my opinion.”

The seven-time WWE Champion praised McMahon very highly. Also, as Lesnar said, ‘Vinnie-Mac’ made him the next big star before Goldberg and Steiner made their WWE debuts.
