After several conversations between wrestlers about the Intercontinental Championship, Adam Pearce announced that Ricochet, Bronson Reed, Sami Zayn, Chad Gable, Shinsuke Nakamura, and JD McDonagh would face off in a Gauntlet Match to determine Gunther’s challenger for the title at WrestleMania 40. The match took place tonight on RAW and was won by Sami Zayn, making him the man to face Gunther at WrestleMania.

However, this win has disappointed fans. And not because of the winner of the match, but because it was rumored that Brock Lesnar would make his return to the WWE tonight for a special reason.

Due to him being mentioned as a part of the lawsuit filed by a former WWE employee against Vince McMahon, Brock Lesnar has been absent from the weekly schedule since SummerSlam 2023. However, WWE had plans in place for ‘The Beast’ heading into Road to WrestleMania. Before his return to the Royal Rumble was scrapped, Brock Lesnar was scheduled to face Dominik Mysterio at Elimination Chamber. After that, Brock Lesnar was going to face Gunther at WrestleMania 40 for the Intercontinental Championship. This made fans speculate that the Beast was going to return tonight on RAW. And not just return, but be a part of the gauntlet match and win the whole thing. This would’ve given the fans the real feud they wanted.
