On WWE SmackDown this week, Drew McIntyre was announced as one of the contenders vying for a spot in the Elimination Chamber on February 24th. On this episode of Smackdown, when McIntyre confronted Triple H, he called himself Drew McIntyre punk. This is his second dig at Punk after his new anti-punk merch launched last week.

The former WWE Champion is determined to challenge Seth Rollins, with the winner of the Elimination Chamber earning that opportunity. McIntyre, in a promo aimed at CM Punk, humorously dubbed himself “DM Hunk,” playing on his initials.

This move continues his feud with CM Punk, even though he is currently sidelined. While Punk’s absence seems confirmed for WrestleMania, his potential return in the coming months looms. McIntyre’s success in the Chamber match could lead to him becoming a Scottish World Champion, setting the stage for a heated rivalry with Punk upon his return.

Their history, including McIntyre’s injury to Punk in the Men’s Royal Rumble Match, sets the stage for an intense feud upon Punk’s WWE comeback. But did he always hate CM Punk or did something happen?

Reflecting on his interactions with Punk, McIntyre expressed feeling slighted, citing Punk’s dismissal of him during their time together. Despite McIntyre’s hard work during the pandemic, Punk’s return seemingly granted him immediate opportunities.

This went ahead, leading McIntyre to refer to Punk as a ‘demon’ and ‘parasite’ in a January 2024 Raw episode. McIntyre recalled a time when he looked up to Punk for guidance but was instead viewed as a threat by him.

Drew McIntyre’s journey in WWE has positioned him for a potential World Heavyweight Championship shot at WrestleMania, but there’s a looming threat in CM Punk. McIntyre also recently debuted a shirt on Raw, symbolically burying Punk’s WrestleMania main event aspirations, which is now available on the WWE Shop.

Continuing his playful trolling, McIntyre promoted the shirt on social media amidst the buzz surrounding Cody Rhodes’ decision, subtly plugging his new merchandise. With a design featuring a grave site depicting Punk’s main event dream and McIntyre laughing. McIntyre’s ongoing mockery of Punk reflects his sentiments towards the former WWE champion. But is the rivalry a real-life deal?

The recent Raw episode wasn’t the only instance showcasing Drew McIntyre’s stance on Punk. Before Punk’s return, the 38-year-old labeled him as controversial. But is there genuine animosity behind this hostility? It appears WWE deliberately positioned McIntyre against popular figures to create dissent.

McIntyre’s recent behavior aligns with this narrative, as he’s embraced a darker persona. Officially turning heel by joining forces with The Judgment Day at the Survivor Series and WarGames. The tension between him and Punk seems to bolster McIntyre’s heel image, orchestrated by WWE for storyline credibility.
