Apart from being a top-level Hollywood actor, Dwayne Johnson is also an extremely successful businessman. Johnson has several successful ventures to his name, such as Seven Bucks Production, Teremana Tequila, Zoa energy drink, and more recently, the XFL.

XFL was previously owned by Vince McMahon, but the company had to be scrapped due to low viewership and recurring losses. XFL was launched as the fast and gritty competition to the much popular NFL. However, XFL failed to hit the mark and began on a disappointing note. And, had to be shut down twice. Once in 2001, and the other in 2020 due to the pandemic leading to significant losses.

Both times Vince McMahon failed to get the league to the status he wished. However, in 2020, Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia purchased the league from McMahon and completely refurbished it.

They brought in new teams, new branding, and a draft system. And, rather than being a competition to the NFL, it became an R&D partner to it, joining hands for the betterment of football.

Dwayne Johnson’s XFL began on a positive note and started bringing in praiseworthy results. His investment worth $15 million, seems to have yielded results thus far and the league has something to show for it.

How has XFL faired since its launch in 2023?

XFL has to date yielded strong results. Out of the four games that have been played. 12,000 people attended three of them, while one game saw 24,000 people in the stadium. The TV ratings of the league are also extremely good and are bringing positive outcomes.

1.57 million viewers watched the season opener and 1.14 million viewers watched the match between Guardians vs Roughnecks.

Johnson’s XFL has managed to beat another popular league NHL. While NHL could only secure 253,000 viewers, XFL was soaring high with 553,000 viewers with their Battlehawks vs Sea Dragons game.

XFL is not just a league for Johnson, it is a passion project of his. After he failed to get drafted into the NFL, his football career ended prematurely. However, he does not want the same to happen with the current budding footballers and wants to provide them with an opportunity to play professional football.
