There isn’t a bigger metric in the wrestling business than statistics and Roman Reigns is pulling the biggest numbers in the business. All throughout The Bloodline story, especially in 2023, fans have been keeping up with the engagement numbers and it’s true. Reigns is the biggest star according to the online communities.

But Reigns’ advisor just pulled up another part of the statistics, which proves that ‘The Tribal Chief’ is also the biggest draw when it comes to live audiences.

Records show why Roman Reigns is the biggest star in the wrestling business today

On Instagram, Paul Heyman revealed the multiple records that this week’s SmackDown broke. The Trial of the Tribal Chief broke two major records at the Madison Square Garden arena for WWE. First, this week marked the highest-grossing SmackDown on US ground in the company’s history.

But that wasn’t all. This SmackDown was also marked as the highest-grossing event in the Madison Square Garden arena. This is especially important, as WWE has always been a New York-based wrestling promotion. Making history at Madison Square Garden is no small matter, and it certainly fits Reigns’ prior achievements of selling out WrestleMania crowds for the past few years.

But what is the reason behind this sudden boost? Coming off a big main event scene at the Money in the Bank, aren’t fans supposed to feel burnout? Also, given more than two years’ worth of story, why aren’t the fans bored with this already? But given that this story is Emmy-nominated worthy, according to Michael Cole, how could it disappoint?

Why was this specific episode so big?

Coming off the heat from the main event of Money in the Bank it shocked the wrestling fraternity to see Jey Uso pin Reigns after 3 and a half years. It was a monumental moment in this story and the backlash from it was also supposed to be enormous.

Add to that, Reigns was already scheduled to appear on this week’s show. But The Usos added the cherry on top by announcing that there will be a Trial of the Tribal Chief segment on the show. This was the perfect recipe for attracting every single fan to the show.
