The UFC successfully merged with WWE under the banner TKO Group Holdings, leaving both entities to function independently while under a parent company. WWE was acquired at a valuation of $9.3 Billion and following the merger, the total valuation is $21 Billion.

However, even after being a part of such a big venture, Vince McMahon, the former proprietor and current executive chairman of TKO was not able to secure a $1 million deal.

McMahon’s failed attempt at winning a deal

The deal in question is WWE trying to acquire RevPro. The British promotion was founded by Andy Quildan in August 2012. According to a statement given by Will Ospreay backstage at a recent NJPW show, WWE had offered Quildan $1 million for the promotion. After defeating Yota Tsuji in the main event of NJPW Destruction in Kobe, Ospreay went backstage and spoke about his upcoming match.  While talking about the foe he will be facing, he dropped details about the deal.

He said that WWE had offered a million dollars for the promotion. But the owner Quildan decided to turn down the offer. The reason behind this according to Ospreay was his belief in the promotion. According to Fightful, he said, “A small independent UK company that had a million dollars from WWE offered to them and he turned it down, because he believed in Revolution Pro Wrestling.” However, the 30-year-old star didn’t shed any light on what the purpose of the deal was. Neither did he share any details as to when it had happened.

It is not like RevPro is not open to partnerships. They have worked with NJPW and other promotions based in Mexico and USA including Tony Khan’s AEW. Many famous names from WWE have previously worked with the promotion. This includes but is not limited to Kurt Angle, AJ Styles, Kevin Owens, Rey Mysterio, and many more.

Meanwhile, WWE has been partnering with various smaller promotions which include Evolve, and Progress Wrestling. They mostly air their content on the WWE network. But this is not the first time someone from RevPro turned down WWE’s offer.

WWE and RevPro’s history

WWE has a history of organizing tryouts to recruit new talent. This usually takes the form of deals. However, in 2018, RevPro declined an offer made by WWE. The reason was that if they had signed the contract, pro wrestlers at RevPro would not be able to perform at NJPW. RevPro has special ties with NJPW and a lot of stars from RevPro made their way to the Japanese promotion.

Will Osprey who started his career from RevPro made a significant mark in the industry. He is now a part of the NJPW roster. However, even after becoming a part of NJPW, he was made an offer by WWE. The reason why Osprey declined this offer was the fact that he was content with his place at NJPW. Apart from that, WWE has a history of Holiday Special matches which the 30-year-old star is not a fan of.
