Former WWE Star Detailed How Roman Reigns Benefited From Brock Lesnar Breaking The Undertaker’s WrestleMania Streak Before Him: “That’s a Tricky Situation”

The 2014 WrestleMania final match was an iconic moment in the history of WWE. When Brock Lesnar finally pinned down The Undertaker after his various attempts, the audience went berserk as it was indeed the end of an era. After the match, there was a lot of conversation about whether Lesnar was the right choice to break The Streak. 

The Undertaker has also confessed in some interviews that the opportunity of breaking the legendary streak should’ve been offered to someone else, a new superstar who would be entirely invested in the company for a long time to come. However, the former Intercontinental Champion gave his thought on Vince McMahon’s vision of giving Lesnar the opportunity. 

Ryback, who is currently fighting a legal case against the WWE for the trademark, appreciated Vince McMahon’s decision. On his YouTube channel, Ryback TV, he expressed his thoughts on someone else breaking Taker’s streak.

Even though Reigns defeated Undertaker in the following WrestleMania, many fans thought that The Tribal Chief should’ve been the first one. But Ryback had a different opinion. “From my standpoint, that was really, really exciting and something I would have wanted. But like I said that as a babyface if I would have beat him, the backlash of that would have been enormous.”

How did Roman Reigns benefit from Lesnar breaking the streak?

Ryback explained how it was a good thing for The Tribal Chief to not be the first one to beat The Deadman at his event. “That’s a tricky situation because you run the risk with wrestling fans. Brock might have been the only guy they could have done it with that really didn’t have a backlash on him.”

“From a character standpoint, I think if you do it with anybody else, specifically a new talent, we’ve already seen how wrestling fans are. How do you think that fan base of Roman would have beat him that year? Holy hell, people might have jumped the barricades.”

Ryback led with the example of The Rock vs. John Cena WrestleMania match and the backlash after it. Ryback explained that the same thing would’ve happened with Reigns. Roman Reigns was still part of The Sheild at that time and didn’t have the ascendancy he now has as the Head of The Table.
