“I Had a Conversation” – Hulk Hogan Feared Getting Killed by Andre the Giant if the Reason the Latter’s WrestleMania Injuries Came to Light

Not many WrestleMania main events come to mind when you talk about an iconic moment. Only a few moments ever make it into the audience’s memory and they come few and far between. But one all-time classic moment was the slam heard around the world. When Hulk Hogan picked up Andre the Giant and slammed him in the middle of the ring, it mesmerized fans around the world.

You can find many variations of that moment, but none can ever capture that feeling. What Hogan did in that ring was monumental because of Andre’s reputation and stature. Also, such a big man taking a body slam is not something that is safe to apply. Not only do men as big as Andre have all sorts of issues, but they have to steer clear of any injuries. But that night, the giant took the biggest risk of his life.

In the recent WWE Rivals show, they looked at the rivalry between Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant. Starting all the way from when they first met, the episode tackled a lot of topics. But one that got everyone’s attention when they talk about the iconic moment in the match. In the episode, they revealed that Andre had a lot of back pain at the time. Knowing this, Hogan was worried for himself and his opponent’s safety.

He also revealed, “I had a conversation, the night before, with Vince. We were worried about him. Took Vince’s legal pad I said, ‘See this is plan A. But if you tell him I did this, he is gonna kill me, ’cause he leads the match. Does he need to really take the bump? But if he does go down, it needs to be near the ropes, so he can cover if he’s hurt.’

To this day, Hogan has never forgotten about the way Andre put over Hulkmania at that moment. Even after 35 years, Hogan always thanks Andre for putting him in the place he is in right now. Without that moment, it is arguable that we would see Hogan become the household name that he is today.
