Well, when you are as big as Hulk Hogan in the wrestling industry, there are bound to be some haters. But unlike other wrestlers, there are so many instances when the hate toward Hogan was justified. The man was the progenitor of modern wrestling. So, obviously he developed a big ego when he was working for WWE in the 80s.

This led to the Hulkster wanting the big main event positions every time. Even when he was done working for WWE, he switched to WCW and used his star power to become the top guy instantly. But while over the years we have heard many wrestlers talk about Hogan in a bad light, they were all people who worked with the guy. But this time, this WWE legend, who never met Hogan in the ring, has a choice of words for the former WWE Champion.

WWE legend once spilled the beans on his thoughts about Hulk Hogan

In an interview in 2015, Bob Backlund was asked about his thoughts on Hulk Hogan. He said, “I thought that he didn’t meet the standards and I know Bruno would have thought if I had been doing all that goofy stuff he was doing he wouldn’t have liked me being champion and I’m sure that Bruno feels the same way. He (Hulk) didn’t meet the standards outside the ring to be able to represent the WWF. Did the WWE fire him recently? Because I would have fired him thirty years ago. He was saying one thing and doing another.

While Backlund is right that Hogan did not achieve the grandeur of Samartino, the Hulkster was a different guy. His influence on the business was a different color. When Vince McMahon picked Hogan he was looking for the next Samartino but he found Hogan. Hogan was more dramatic with his behavior and moves in the ring than Samartino. While the latter played a man’s man character, Hogan was more of a superhero for the kids.
