Fans know John Cena as the popular WWE star who is recognized worldwide. Nowadays following his WWE success, Cena is on his way to Hollywood stardom. However, all this was a distant dream for Cena when he was trying to find a path in his life and working odd jobs to make ends meet. One such job saw the WWE icon work as a bouncer in a bar in California. Moreover, he had his fair share of clashes with people during this time.

A few years ago, during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! show Cena talked about his time as a bouncer in his early 20s. The Champ mentioned he was involved in numerous fights that turned ugly at times and also endured a few beatings. Cena also revealed how he survived on meagre wages while working at the bar.

John Cena‘s journey to the global stage of WWE was not a straightforward one. The Doctor of Thuganomics spent a brief career as a bodybuilder before he turned to wrestling in front of small crowds in ‘flea markets’. In between Cena also spent time as a bouncer at a bar in California.

In 2015, speaking on the Jimmy Kimmel Live Cena revealed as a bouncer he had strict instructions to not permit anyone without a valid ID. Cena said he had to stay vigilant and ensure that he got paid at the end of the night. “I’m sitting at the front door and a Hawaiian shirt, six sizes too small the blonde mohawk…[…] I’m drinking coffee just hoping I can get paid my 50 bucks at the end of the night.”

Cena also said he got into brawls quite a number of times with some guys due to the nature of his job and even got beat up. He said, “Man, that place! Thank goodness they’re no weapons involved. But I was in my fair share of brawls. Won some, lost some. In a bar fight anything goes. I’ve had my a** whooped a bunch of times.”

Cena’s all you can eat pizza

Furthermore, Cena talked about how he survived on $50 a day. He said he went to a nearby Pizza place that offered a large deep-dish pizza. The shop offered the pizza for free if someone could eat the whole thing. The Hollywood star said to save his $50 he would go there and eat the whole pizza until the shopkeeper told him to ask for a free slice if he needed one.

It is astonishing to learn that one of the richest WWE stars had to go through such an ordeal just to make ends meet. He got beat up from time to time only to earn a meagre wage. But Cena persisted and his resilience bore fruit as he made it to WWE and the rest is history. Today he is one of the most beloved and well-known celebrities across the globe.
