WWE Superstars Pays a Heartfelt Homage to the Undertaker on Smackdown

WWE Superstar The Undertaker recently announced his retirement from pro-wrestling. Mark Calaway, the man behind the Undertaker had been through a long and storied career in the business, spanning over 3 decades.

Friday Night Smackdown held a very poignant tribute for the Deadman, It started out with most of the roster coming out to the ring in appreciation, chanting ‘Thank You, Taker’. Jon Morrison, Braun Strowman, Jeff Hardy, Alexa Bliss, New Day, Bayley, Sasha Banks, The Miz, Cesaro, Nikki Cross, Shinsuke Nakamura all showed up at the beginning of the show, paying their respects to the legend.

Former WWE Superstars Kane and Nature Boy Ric Flair also shared their thoughts on the retiring Superstar. “He is the greatest character in the history of this company. The character was so unique. It was mythical and legendary, it was kinda amazing.”
Kane and The Undertaker formed the Brothers of Destruction, who left a trail of carnage behind them, wherever they went. Kane had personally been witness to the evolution of the character of the Undertaker throughout “He’s the only character that was able to maintain the integrity of the character, and add to it. Never before in history had you seen a guy that big, who could do all those athletic things.”

WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair also made an appearance “Taker was just a whole new deal. 6’10”, 280 pounds, diving over the ropes… Guys just don’t do that.”
Flair had previously revealed that The Undertaker was a big factor in him gaining back the confidence he had lost as an aging wrestler. ”It was then and still is today the greatest character and the greatest star in the history of the business as far as I’m concerned.”
Stone Cold Steve Austin, possibly the greatest pro-wrestler of his time, also had a lot to say about the Undertaker. “He’s a warhorse. He’s had, hands down one of the best careers in the business. When I think Undertaker, I think of this guy with all of this mystique. You knew as soon as you met him that he was gonna be somebody.”
Numerous retired Superstars chimed in, out of respect for the Deadman. Mick Foley, who put one of the greatest Hell in a Cell matches with the Undertaker, was full of praise for him. “I can’t imagine what my life would be like without him. I believe he’s transcended sports entertainment.” Mick said, speaking about the Undertaker’s career.

His long-standing foes, Shawn Michaels and Triple H also commented on the Undertaker’s exit from the business. His matches and feuds with the two around the late 2000s made for some of the best WWE content ever.
“The longevity, to evolve in a methodical and meticulous way over the years, and get such reactions, it was just magic. And because of that, you can’t help but respect the guy.” Said Michaels.
Triple H praised Mark’s loyalty, to his friends and to the business. “He was a constant, a locker room leader. His legacy is that there will never be another.”

Dave Batista probably had the most profound take on The Undertaker retiring. “If I was gonna brag about my career, it wouldn’t be about things I’ve accomplished, it’d be about the people I’ve worked with. People like the Undertaker. If I had the respect of people like that, that says how good my career was.”
The Undertaker will forever be known as one of the most, if not the greatest pro-wrestler of all time. His work has touched generations of audiences and fans, cementing his place an probably the greatest of all time.
