In the interview, Kurt Angle revealed that The Rock played a pivotal role in making the match the huge success that it was.

“My rookie year before I started, I wasn’t even the business a year so I was coming up on a year and I debuted, and within 10 months I won the World title so I wasn’t in the business 2 years and I was World champion and I still didn’t know what I was doing,” explains Angle.

Despite Kurt Angle’s lack of experience in the company, he was given the big push. He did his best to catch up to the speed and hit the ground running. He admits to receiving some senior guidance from The Rock during their match.

“You know when I wrestled The Rock at no mercy, when I won the title from him, he led me through the whole match,” says Angle. “So I was one of those guys who had to learn on the job and kept improving and I had to let these other guys- The Undertaker, Triple H, Stone Cold, The Rock let them take lead.”

Kurt Angle had to deal with more enemies than just The Rock

“Chris Jericho did a phenomenal job with me so as I was learning they were leading me and then eventually I became a good leader and I was able to lead the matches,” says Angle.

Kurt Angle had a huge match against The Rock at No Mercy that year. The two competitors refused to stay down despite interferences from Triple H and Rikishi, who were out to settle personal vendettas.

In the end, Angle proved to be the better athlete by delivering two consecutive Angle Slams, one to Rikishi and the next to The Rock. He then went on to pin The Rock to win the title.
