WWE boss Vince McMahon has taken many amateur wrestlers and turned them into professional wrestlers. Just like many others, Vince McMahon had faith in one such WWE Hall of Famer. But, this WWE Hall of Famer had talked trash about Vince McMahon’s company, and also about Triple H and Shawn Michaels when he jumped ship to TNA (Impact Wrestling) in 2002.

When Mr. McMahon purchased WCW in 2001, WWE Hall of Famer Road Dogg moved to TNA Wrestling and allied with his best friend, Billy Gunn. In addition, Road Dogg and Billy Gunn named their faction the ‘Voodoo Kin Mafia’ in TNA Wrestling.

The initials of Voodoo Kin Mafia were the same as WWE boss, Vincent Kennedy McMahon.

What did Road Dogg say about Vince McMahon and the company?

Brian James, aka Road Dogg, recently sat down with Ryan Katz on the latest episode of the “Oh, You Didn’t Know” podcast. The WWE Hall of Famer revealed that thrashing Mr. McMahon on rival wrestling promotions resulted from his own substance addiction.

Road Dogg and Mr. McMahon shared a creative difference before moving to TNA. But passing negative comments on Mr. McMahon is something that Brian James regrets.

Dogg mentioned“At that time personally, I had hard feelings against the company. It was all of my own volition, and I never realized that until post WWE career. And sobriety kicked in that I realized, and I look back, and we’re like, ‘Oh, God, what was I doing?’”

“Billy was angry. I was angry. Of course, we were both in active addiction as well. I don’t think Billy minds me telling you that because we’ve both been sober for over 11 years now. So we’re doing well. But look, we were both not good personally. We were doing what we could do professionally,” James added.

WWE Hall of Famer revealed that his and Billy Gunn’s substance abuse addiction led to smacking their former boss. Dogg and Gunn knew professionally it was wrong to fire shots at someone who gave them a platform to wrestle. But since they were getting paid enough through TNA promotions, they were doing everything possible.

Did WWE not stand tall for Road Dogg during his addiction?

When Brian James was under the influence of consuming substances, Vince McMahon and the company stood by his side. However, Road Dogg neglected what WWE was doing for him when the addiction took over. Despite his actions, Mr. McMahon’s WWE financially supported Dogg’s family throughout his addiction.

“They did nothing wrong to me. This was all of my own doing. This was me and my addiction, and my lack of coping skills, and I didn’t know how to live life. So I went through life like a hurricane with horns. I was destructive and destroying every relationship, both personal and professional,” Road Dogg added.

Road Dogg took the high road and accepted his wrongdoings when he talked trash about Vince McMahon. But, according to the WWE Hall of Famer, he didn’t understand how to make practical decisions because he was under the influence of substances.

It was the most challenging time in Brian James’ life because his addiction vandalized his relationships professionally and personally. However, that’s all in the past, and Road Dogg has been clean for the past 11 years. Even when Dogg returned to the WWE in 2011, Mr. McMahon held no grudges because he was welcomed with open arms.
