The WWE has given its fans several memorable moments to cherish. Among them, one is definitely the appearance of Mike Tyson at WrestleMania 14 as a special guest enforcer. He performed his job for the WWE Championship title match between Shawn Michaels and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. His association with the promotion provided a boost to the latter, as they used him quite smartly.

As per Jim Ross, Tyson joined hands with WWE, as he was also financially distressed during that period. Both WWE and the boxer benefitted hugely after this. However, what took everyone by surprise was the post-match swerve that happened at WrestleMania 14.

Before the event, WWE Universe knew about Iron Mike’s partnership with D-Generation X, however, the main event gave viewers an entirely different visual and many wondered what led to that point.

Why did Mike Tyson betray Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 14?

Before WrestleMania 14, a brawl broke out between Tyson and The Texas Rattlesnake. Soon after this, Tyson was seen joining hands with Michaels as he wore a D-Generation X shirt. It was pretty clear that he will favor Michaels over Austin at WrestleMania.

However, to everyone’s surprise, the opposite happened. During the main match when the original referee was knocked out, he ended up counting the pin for Austin. Not only that, but he then also punched Michaels in the jaw while he celebrated with Stone Cold.

During a recent episode of Foley Is Pod, Mick Foley reflected on the creative aspect of the match. He said, “He’s wearing the DX shirt. And then there was the postmatch swerve with Mike where he was never actually with  DX. You know, he was actually a stone cold fan. But it was fun to watch Mike doing the end he so obviously enjoyed being there. He’s a big fan.

This sums up pretty much everything and why he snubbed the DX shirt and sided with ‘Stone Cold’. This particular moment stands out as it ushered the beginning of the Attitude Era and WWE would never be the same again.

In 2012, arguably the greatest heavyweight boxer was inducted into WWE HOF. For this, the legend felt honored and said, “I was the youngest heavyweight champion of all time but the most fun I ever had in the ring was with WWE.

This statement by Tyson is not usual but meant utterly important for the promotion and its image. As they have already used the legend for reaching unimaginable popularity, receiving such a compliment from him was a great honor.
