Jim Ross Highlights How Mike Tyson’s Financial Crisis Made Life Easier for Them in WWE: “He Needed to Do Something”
Mike Tyson can be regarded as a legend when it comes to boxing. ‘Iron’ Mike ruled the boxing ring for a good amount of time. However, Tyson did leave his mark in pro wrestling as well. There is a reason why Tyson was inducted into WWE’s Hall of Fame. A lot of new fans may not be aware of it but his appearance was a delight to the audience.
The wrestler appeared in the promotion during the WrestleMania build match between Shawn Michaels and Stone Cold Steve Austin. Despite initially siding with Michaels and DX all hell broke loose when Tyson knocked out Shawn Michaels with just one punch after the WrestleMania 14 main event where he counted the final pinfall to declare Austin the winner.
The cameo was a nice way to include a legend in the promotion. However, there is always a reason behind all the deeds. A WWE veteran recently talked Tyson’s reason for joining WWE.

The beastly fighter showered people with his grace at WrestleMania 14. The appearance hyped up the audience. However, Jim Ross recently appeared on a podcast and talked about Tyson’s ‘real reason’ behind joining the wrestling promotion.
Even though Ross has been out of WWE for quite a while now, he doesn’t shy away from sharing his thoughts regarding the company. Likewise, he explained that part of the reason why ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson had to join WWE was because of his financial status.

“Nobody Got a Chain on Me”: Mike Tyson Comes Clean on Why He Went Broke
“He [Mike Tyson] wanted to do something. And yes, some of that was because of his financial needs,” shared Ross while talking about the boxing legend. The boxer had also reported in 2003 that he had been in financial distress since 1998. This is also the year he appeared in WWE. Not only was the promotion the right decision at the time, but Tyson was also a good decision for the company.

Apart from being an audience magnet, Tyson was a pleasant artist to work with. Ross mentioned that he was a natural when it came to his performance. It didn’t take much effort to get him into the dedicated suit of wrestling.
Ross further added: “Well, how do we get Mike to like WWE enough to commit to a certain amount of time and, and come and participate in this crazy a*s presentation on live television? But that was not hard. He wanted to do something. He needed to do something.” He recalled how Tyson’s ‘fandom’ for WWE made him a good asset for the team while being a fast and active learner.
