Following his blockbuster appearance at WrestleMania XL, Dwayne Johnson had to fly to Las Vegas in a rush by Monday, 8th April. This is because he was slated to announce Disney’s upcoming project, of which he is officially a part. If you were a fan of his work in Moana, then buckle up for another ride alongside Maui and Moana.

Dwayne Johnson announces Moana 2

So far, Johnson’s role as Maui is confirmed for a return. Moreover, Auli’i Cravalho is also coming back to reprise her role as Moana. Apart from this, it seems like the princess and her demigod friend will journey across the vast seas to a mysterious island as an even more interesting plot unveils itself during the sequel.

There is also a live-action Moana remake under production, which will surface by 2026. For now, fans can anticipate the expected November 2024 release of the animated sequel. However, unlike Moana 2, the entire cast is not going to return this time around.

Dwayne Johnson will be working with a new talent

In the live-action version of the hit Disney animated movie, The Brahma Bull is set to return as Maui, but we won’t be seeing the return of the lead voice actor. Cravalho has officially confirmed that she has passed the role offered to her as ‘Moana’. According to the voice actor, she wished this chance to be offered to someone who would be able to do justice to the role.

Despite her absence in the live-action project, we will still see her in the upcoming animated project. If Moana gets to have another adventure after her second one, then it’s possible that Auli’i will return for that as well.
