Given the Hollywood landscape, moviegoers and producers love to put bankable movie stars in action films to ensure a profit. But one aspect of filmmaking that gets swept under the rug is quality and uniqueness. For critics on the internet, these two aspects are the most important part of any movie and the new John Cena movie isn’t delivering on it.

Very much like Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam in 2022, Cena’s new movie is getting bashed by critics on the internet. Even with the legendary action star, Jackie Chan, the movie isn’t a critical success. But the Netflix film might not be a failure.

Releasing on Netflix, just a week after Cena’s massive success in Barbie, Hidden Strike didn’t gel well with the critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, Hidden Strike received a critics’ score of 17%, ranking it as one of the lowest in both the stars’ catalogs. These critics’ scores look terrible for the $80 million budget movie.

Hidden Strike sits as Cena’s lowest-performing movie on the Rotten Tomatoes site. But his recent roles in Barbie and The Suicide Squad showed his superb acting skills as critics pointed out. Even the fans also have backed up his acting skills, ranking him better than Dwayne Johnson.

But in the Hollywood business, critics aren’t everything. Fans make or break any movie that’s released, either in the theaters or on streaming services. Luckily, having Cena and Chan in the key roles, the movies didn’t fail from the fans’ perspectives.

Despite severe critics’ scores, Hidden Strike does great with Netflix viewers

Even though Hidden Strike was at 0% for a minute, this didn’t stop fans from watching the new buddy action film. In many areas, Hidden Strike has already charted in the top 10 movies list that Netflix publishes on the app.

With already-established stars like Cena and Chan, Hidden Strike is yet another addition to the series of big movie stars on Netflix movies. The Adam Project, Extraction, and Red Notice have all shown success despite being critical flops on Rotten Tomatoes, just like Hidden Strike. The viewer success of Hidden Strike could also urge Netflix for a sequel to the movie.
