Paul Heyman Narrates the Heartbreaking Story of Her Mother, a Holocaust Survivor, Who Witnessed the Death of 13 of Her Cousins: “The Men Left, the Women Stayed”

Several European Jews lost their lives during World War 2 during the tragic events of the Holocaust, which resulted in large-scale persecution of Jews. Recently, WWE legend Paul Heyman shared that his late mother, Sulamita, is a Holocaust survivor. He detailed her life during World War 2 and also shared how she lived her life after she survived.

In this recent interview, the Wise Man also shared his relationship with his mother. Moreover, he called himself a means to share his mother’s story with the future generation.

Paul Heyman shares his mother being a Holocaust survivor

In a recent interview on The Moment with Brian Koppelman, Heyman shared the story of his mother. He recalled his mom was born in Lodz and was in the Lodz Ghetto and all the men had left due to the prevailing circumstances.

Heyman said, “And so the men had stayed, they figured if we stay, we have to fight, we die. We can’t oppose that army. But listen, everything’s gonna be okay, there’s civil occupiers. Who would have thought that this cultured civilization from you know, was going to kill women and children, which is what? So the men left, and the women stayed.”

He added, “Everybody was in hiding. By the time she got on the train to Auschwitz. 13 of her cousins had starved to death. My mother was born in (19)27. And she got she was on the train to Auschwitz in August (19)44. My mother’s mother and my mother’s sister who was seven went straight to the gas chambers.”

Furthermore, he shared, his mother reached Auschwitz and was a part of the march from Auschwitz to Bergen Belsen. Hence, she was liberated in Bergen Belsen on April 15, 1945. Moreover, Heyman also revealed his mother was ill at the age of 18 years old. They still have the reports that state she had typhus or typhoid and some state she had both.

Nevertheless, Heyman reminisced she wasn’t given a high chance of survival, but she lived a long life. She ended up becoming a nurse at the Displaced persons Hospital in Berlin because “she had nowhere to go.”

How did Heyman’s mother come to the North American continent?

Heyman recalled his mother had an uncle who had migrated to Canada. For several years her uncle traveled to Poland to see if any family member was alive. Luckily in 1949, he learned a member of his family is alive in Bergen Belsen and he went to search in Germany.

Heyman’s mother was reunited with her uncle who brought her to Canada. From Canada, she migrated to the US through the highest Hebrew Immigration Aid Society.

The Special Counsel talked very highly about his mother and recalled she was proud when he became a father. Heyman’s mother Sulamita lived a long life from 1928 to 2009. Indeed, she saw some horrific moments in her early life but fought through everything.
